Full Description

{1} Henry Holland filled in the moat 1787-91.

{2} Refers to Kip's engraving which shows moat to be dry. " I think the moat is also the same; in the picture the moat is dry, as a gardener tending the fruit trees on the wall has put down his basket on the grass, and Kip's shading of the moat was surely not intended to indicate water, for, if the moat was wet, it would have been very difficult to maintain the fruit trees shown on the walls."
