Full Description

{1} A further rectangular earthwork enclosure cuts through the earlier enclosure (Mon 2484/0/1). The eastern side was possibly defined to the east by a hedge which was still in existance in 1747. The earthwork may be contemporary with enclosure 7074/0/1 as both are aligned on the same trackway. A stone barn was erected on top of the enclosure, with a hedge around it. The barn and hedge are shown on the First Edition OS map of 1889, but were not there in 1824. The barn is now demolished. [This interpretation was refined in 1996-7, see source {2}.]

{2} Later developments involved the blocking of the trackway by a pair of plough ridges running north-east to south-west, and the erection of a stone barn, now demolished, on top of the enclosure. This was surrounded by a hedge, and shown on the first edition OS map of 1889. It still stood until fairly recently, but was not there in 1824.
