Full Description

{1} Dam spans the base of steep-sided valley approximately 170m north-east of the dam at SP62837658. It has been breached near its mid-point by the stream and by a vehicle track, exposing an eroded section to the south-east. At this point the dam measures approximately 12-13m wide at its base and stands at least 1.5m high. It is composed of marly clay with occasional small ironstone fragments. Close by the south-east end of the dam and adjoining the base of the steep valley side is a narrow terrace like feature approximately 3m wide by 40m long, possibly natural in origin. A small, very slight crescent shaped earthwork lies adjacent and below the dam as does the line of a small earthwork ditch or drain. The latter runs south-west down the approximate centre of the valley bottom towards the lower dam.
