Full Description

{1} The remains of a partially demolished circular brick tank are located c.3m from the east side of the stream in field 9366. Measuring 3.15m internal diameter the walls are built from mortared red brick (c.212mm x 98mm x 61mm) and occasional blue brick to at least 7 courses deep. The top of the wall is capped along part of its length with limestone slabs up to 0.70 x 0.45 x 010m. No intake or outfall was observed through the base of the debris filled taken must sit at about the same level as the base of the adjacent stream. Presumably C19th in date, its function is undetermined but possibly for stock use or associated with the nearby chalybeate spring?
