Full Description

{1}Late C15th 3-storey gatearch was remodelled in 1652; arms of Mildmay & Walsingham; heraldic griffin;

{3} The original roof structure was thought to have been built in the 1620s. Tree-ring dating however suggests that the roof was rebuilt some years after 1684, most probably in the 18th century reusing timber from an earlier structure.

{4} A three storey gatehouse to Apethorpe Hall, to the north range of Apethorpe Hall, probably built in the late 15th century. It features an octagonal staircase tower in its south-east corner. Apart from the remodelling of the battlements, thought to have occurred 1622-24, it survives largely intact both internally and externally. The source, a report on Apethorpe Hall by English Heritage contains photographs and a cross section drawing of the tower.

[5} The three-storey gatehouse is situated to the north front of Apethorpe Hall. It was built in the 15th to early 16th century.
