Full Description

{1} A collection of photographs and slides. A large timber storage shed which according to local information may have been built c1926. The timber store was part of the timber yard of the former Smiths Timber Company which closed c.1985. The condition of the shed is poor. Large timber shed between the river and South Bridge Road - impressive reminder of timber manufacturing industry. The shed has unusual lattice timber work struts supporting the roof. Its present condition is becoming poor due to neglect.

{6} Comments on Northamptonshire Archaeology's report on the shed and sketch of the crane mechanism once located on the shed's western flank.

{7} Building recording survey of a timber storage shed immediately prior to its dismantling. The shed was part of an extensive timber yard and steam sawmills complex that was well established by the late 19th century. The shed iteslf was constructed between 1900 and 1925. It was expanded considerably by 1963.
