Full Description
{1}T.C. Welsh speculates on possiblility that earthwork terraces around SP 768 632 are conduits designed to convey water around the head of Walbeck to exploit springs on the Kingsthorpe side as part of the town water supply.Uses documentary evidence to supplement evidence on ground and cites number of references to attempt to control water in Northampton from 13th to 19th centuries. Concludes "It is quite likely that there were multiple conduits representing attempts to carry water at different dates and by different parties".1697 reference to "the great conduit was made and built and water brought to it in pipes out of the field from the place called conduit head"
