Summary

Cropmarks of a ring ditch were recorded on air photographs taken in 1982. Prior to this in the 1920's, a tumulus had been recorded during excavation work in advance of gravel digging, which left no obviuos remains of the mound. It is possibly a Bronze Age round barrow.

Full Description

{1} Earthwork; possible Bronze Age round barrow measuring 40m in diameter, quarried in 1929. Some excavation took place but no records survive. SP96147045

{3} Possible Bronze Age overhanging rim urn was found; now lost.

{4} Probably the same urn as that referred to on 1344/1/4; G Foard.

{5} Tumulus was levelled in 1924; " An extensive tumulus being about 120 yards in circumference but only about 10ft in height".

{10} Tumulus removed in 1924 followed by gravel digging in 1929. Dr Robb of Irthlingborough carried out some rescue excavation.

{11} Dr Robb is now dead, and no report of his excavation can be traced. The whole of this area has been quarried for gravel, there are no remains of a mound.

No evidence of finds from the excavation could be obtained.

{12} (SP 961705). Cropmarks, a ring ditch was recorded on AP in 1982.
