Monument record 2433/0/2 - Possible Romano-British Timber Buildings, Henslow Meadow

Roman settlement remains were identified during soil stripping for quarrying. A number of pits and ditches with associated 2nd-century pottery were exposed, but no excavation was possible.

{1} Roman features identified during soil stripping for quarry. Pits, ditches and Romano-British pottery of the 1st-4th century and a few roof tile fragments. Found immediately north of the junction of the Roman road routes. No stone-built features observed. The scarcity of colour-coated pottery suggests the settlement did not continue into the later Roman period. Finds mainly from NE of the roads.

{3} No excavation was possible. A number of pits and ditches associated with 2nd century pottery were exposed by the stripping of top-soil for the gravel pits in this area.
