Full Description
{1} Description of cross fragment: two panels are visible on the face of this slab. The upper contains the figure of a dragon, the lower holds interlaced work, composed of a double row of spinal knots. A further fragment of this cross is inbuilt into the external wall of the south aisle of the nave.
{2} Two medieval stone coffin lid fragments were found in 1885. Drawings of coffin lids and cross shaft fragment.
{3} Restoration of the church in 1844/6 revealed a portion of a Saxon cross beneath the altar steps; it is preserved in the church.
{4} A fragment of a cross shaft of Oolite was discovered in the foundation of one of the pillars of the south arcade. One the front are two panels, the upper one containing a beast with his front paw upraised biting his tail; and the lower one a pieces of interlaced work composed of a double row of spiral knots, on the side a continuous band of interlaced work composed of a double row of spiral knots;
