Full Description

{1} Trial excavation December 1991 M Shaw. 7 Trenches excavated. None contained any features of definite Roman date and few sherds of residual Roman pottery were recovered. It would appear therefore that the area was not occupied at that period. The presence of layers of alluvium would suggest that the area was prone to regular flooding, which would have acted as a deterrant to occupation.
