Parcel of land associated with Greyfriars was known as The Well Yard. In 1889, a stone-lined well was discovered during the construction of masonic buildings.

Full Description
{1} The sale listing of 1544 includes another parcel of land called The Well Yard with a well in the same.
{2} A newspaper clipping dated Sep 1889 found in the pages of Dryden documents relating to Greyfriars. Headed 'The well of Grey Friars, Interesting Discovery at Northampton'. 'During the excavations in Princes Street prior to the erection of the new masonic buildings the work men have come across an interesting ""find"". About 20 yards from the front street near the Wood Street end of the site. They have discovered what is supposed to be the well of the old grey Friars Priory." the well was apparently 60 ft deep (exclusive of 8ft 3in of water). The walls were substantial blocks of sand stone.
