Full Description
{1} In 1976 the probable edge of Watling Street was located near South Gate, comprising of heavy stone set in clay 0.28m thick overlayed by compact orange gravel.
{2} In the garden of Brewery House (No 64 Watling Street) what appeared to be the tailings of the Roman carriageway were observed 4.50m back from the present kerb line. There was however no dateable material.
{3} A small quantity of bone and mussel shell were recovered.
