Summary

Preston Hall was built in 1716 and comprised a large stuccoed stone building. It was rebuilt in brick and stone after a fire of 1872. The architect was probably EF Law, who designed other elements of the estate. Large parts were then demolished in 1933-4 and the present house has been converted from part of a subsidiary building.

Full Description

{1} A new seat was begun by Sir Richard Newnham, built in 1716. An account is given in the Northampton Mercury July 1759. Sir Richard died before being able to complete. Sir Baldwin Wake hath also an estate here and a house in which he lives called Westhale, built by Sir William Wake, his father.

{2} Preston Hall was built in 1716 and was a large stuccoed stone building. It was altered and extended several times and was then rebuilt after a fire in 1872. The greater part was then demolished in 1933 and the remainder refashioned.

{3} The large Victorian red brick and stone house was probably by E F Law who designed the main gate and other estate buildings. Demolished in 1934. The present building has been converted from from part of a subsidiary building post-dates this.
