Full Description

{1} Finds made pre 1712. Some confusion with Mon 184. From the drawing the urn would appear to be pagan Saxon.

{2} The tesserae and medal of Constans possibly relate to Mon 220/1.

{3} (Ro finds, area SP 519417). "The church at Thengford perhaps was built upon a burial place of the Romans, for in digging a grave in the churchyard was found an urn with ashes in it. Tesserae were found in the field, and a medal of Constans".

{4} Fragments of Roman material were 'traced in the village causeway'. These may relate to the villa (220/1).

{5} Wrong grid references quoted for the church.

{6} Local museums have no record of these finds and the present verger knows of nothing having been found in the churchyard over the last 40 years
