Full Description

{1}Sunken feature building of Anglo-Saxon date excavated in close proximity to Roman villa. Only small proportion of finds seen by Charmian Woodfield, but over 100 sherds of Anglo-Saxon pottery and large quantities of late Roman pottery (AD350 onward). There are five graves stated to be Anglo-Saxon. The finds seem to be bone combs and one girdle hanger.

{2} Evidence to suggest that settlement continued or resumed in the Anglo-Saxon period, a 2-post structure and a group of graves, provisionally of 6th century date were found cutting the abandoned villa building, whilst, a fire-damaged copper-alloy brooch, found in the wider field and presumably from a cremation is indicative of a somewhat larger settlement.
