Summary

Also known as Hunsbury Hill Opencast. Ironstone was quarried in an opencast mine on the north and west side of Hunsbury Hill Iron Age hill fort (known locally as Danes Camp) from 1882 until 1887. The quarrying has destroyed much of the area around the fort but provided Northampton Museum with many Iron Age and Roman finds. The only evidence of the workings can be seen as overgrown earthworks.
