Summary
A series of buildings were demolished during road improvement at the Regents Square area of town. A number of cellars were checked prior to demolition; the sub-floors were excavated to check for archaeological remains. In all cases only the natural geology was identified.

Full Description
{1} Cellars removed in area of road improvements; in all instances they overlay what appeared to be undisturbed natural deposits at depths c.2.5m; no evidence for location of town defences recovered;
{2} No evidence of defences which suggests that they may lay to north of Campbell St; no finds; plans;
{3} Various trenching observed around junction; no evidence of defences; suggests that they lay north of Campbell St; no finds; natural clay & ironstone deposits observed at depth of 0.6m beneath cellarage examined & Campbell Sq itself;
