Full Description

{1} Trench 1 found the west end of a defensive ditch. It was partially examined and some of its infilling was left in situ against the western edge. Roman pottery was found dating from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD.

{2} A trench across the west side of the town defences close to the area investigated by Dr. John Alexander in 1954 confirmed that the defensive ditch went through here.
