Full Description
{2} Layer below castle and above natural. No features. The layer was excavated in two spits. The upper level, spit A, contained only pottery of the 10th-11th centuries. The lower spit yielded 7th/8th century ceramics exclusively. Both spits also contained small fragments of animal bone, limestone and charred wood.The deposit could represent a buried soil with its surface levelled preparatory to building. The layer was 0.3m thick.
