Full Description

{1} Two palaeochannels at opposite ends of the extraction area. The first palaeochannel at east end of the quarry was approximately 14 metres wide and c.1.8m deep. Its alignment was north-east to south-west. Redeposited gravel on its west side may have represented part of a causeway. This had been extensively truncated in antiquity. The channel is partly a visual earthwork. The second channel, at the east end of the quarry was aligned north-south, and was only 8m wide and up to 0.5m deep.

{2} Two palechannels at opposite ends of the extraction area. The first channel, at the east end of the quarry, lay on the north side of the railway which crosses the site. The channel was appproximately 14m wide and c.1.8m deep; its alignment was north-east to south-west. Redeposited gravel on its west side may have represented part of a causeway. This had been extensively truncated in antiquity however, and a definitive interpretation was not possible. The channel continues as a visible earthwork to the south of the railway, where it is preserved within the extraction plan. The second channel, at the east end of the quarry, lay to the south of the railway. The channel was aligned north-south, and was only 8m wide and up to 0.5m deep.
