Summary

A very large quantity of Roman pottery, mostly grey ware but including samian, mortarium sherds and colour-coated wares, a bronze coin, fragments of quernstones and a dense scatter of stone were found in 1976-78 on a site where a pottery scatter had been previously recorded. Interpreted as the possible site of a Roman villa.

Full Description

{1} Scatter of Roman pottery at SP 559598.

{2} A few hundred Roman sherds, mostly grey ware but including samian, mortarium, and colour-coated wares, a bronze coin probably 2nd century, fragments of quernstones of grit and a stone scatter found in this area c 1976-8 at SP 55895977.

{3} Roman bronze coin, Constantinian (341-6), found October 1981

{5} A very large quantity of Roman pottery, mostly grey ware but including samian, mortarium sherds and colour-coated wares, a bronze coin, fragments of quernstones and a dense scatter of stone were found in 19768 on a site where a pottery scatter had previously been recorded.

{7} NH 8 Listed as the possible site of a Roman villa.
