Full Description
{2} Number of lengths of Roman-British ditches (10+) were recovered beneath a layer of fine clay loam and alluvial clay 0.5m to 1.0m thick. The individual lengths of ditches were relatively short and were not fully sectioned. The ditches probably represented property boundaries and flood control features. Those which lay on a NE/SW orientation appear to lie parallel to the line of shallow palaeochannels and may indicate survival of these features and their incorporation in the system of landscape division.
