Full Description

{1}Above this, running along the north-west side of the trench were the remains of a wall. This was made up of sub angular limestone blocks, bonded with matrix of grey-brown silty clay. Abutting the face of the wall were two layers. The lower a firm very dark grey/black silty clay 0.25m thick containing occasional charcoal and mortar flecking and some larger mortar fragments. This was overlaid by a hard pale yellow sand mortar layer, up to 0.1m thick, containing some larger mortar and limestone fragments
