Full Description
{1} Unlocated deserted medieval settlement is suggested by the shape of Yelvertoft township. Possible locations for the settlement are given as SP575752 and SP570749, the latter immediately adjacent to Shenley Farm, hence the possible settlement name of Shenley. Absence of otherwise complete ridge and furrow at two sites SP 570749 575752 suggests a possible deserted hamlet in the W projection of the parish. This projection may have been a discrete land unit. Survival of the open field system in this part of the parish is very good, with the exception of the two grid references given. An interruption of the line of villages adjacent to Watling street at this point (cf Lilbourne, Crick, Watford, Whilton, Muscott, Brockhall, Flore) is further evidence for a settlement in this area.
No documentary evidence or cartographic evidence exists.
