Full Description
{1} Near verical cut into gravel surface, probably a ditch or lowered area which was intended to fill with water (and eventually became filled with dark grey silts). Only the northern cut seen in the trench. It is possibly the Roman utilisation of a water course as part of the town defences.
{2} C. Woodfield says that I Soden is wrong in saying the this feature is part of a watercourse. This is because her published environmental report showed that the feature was filled with stagnant water ie a ditch.
