Full Description

{1} A thick level of grey soil and charcoal containing much pottery. A virtually complete storage jar was found closely fitted into a small circular pit 2 ft 6 in in diameter and 2 ft deep, cut from this level into the underlying subsoil. Inside this was about two-thirds of a broad pear-shaped bowl of similar fabric. The storage jar had presumably been used to store water and the smaller vessel as a dipping jar. The pottery from this layer suggested a date in the late 1st to early 2nd century.
