Full Description

{1} To the rear of the rampart (Mon 1641/4/4) was a lightly metalled track or roadway of gravel some 10ft wide and 3-4in thick also sealing the earlier occupation material. This road had been remetalled in a differing oolite gravel after its initial surface had been buried in a deposit of reddish gravelly silt, washed from the rear of the bank. In order to obviate the need for further similar repairs, this secondary metalling had been carried up over the rear of the rampart.
