Full Description
{1}Security gate house for aircraft factory now used as a casual store for Bus depot / "Bus Club".
Description from record 1160/388/1:
{1}Security gate-house at main vehicle entry. The building controlled access to and from the factory and housed two works policemen. Originally designed to be bomb-proof except for a direct hit, but later enlargment work was not carried out to such a strengthened standard. The building was 8ft 8inch wide with concrete base and concrete roof. It was 13ft 9in long and 11ft 3in wide. Large steel pole mast bracketed to SW wall to support electricity and phone lines from office. Inside the building there is evidence of an internal partition having been removed at some point (possibly blast-proof internal shelter for those on duty?). A sunken steel-edged recess had been provided for a doormat.
