{?} John Dryden was friend of 2nd Viscount Cullen; Dryden's Walk formerly in Hall grounds & C18th column with inscription which was just legible in 1894 but not today; here Dryden is said to have written Hind & Panther;,On pedestal in walk on east side of Wilderness is small moss & lichen-covered urn placed there in memory of poet laureate John Dryden; inscription on front of pedestal; urn is modern & replaces old one;,Poet Dryden was visitor to Rushton & in gardens is walk named after him & memorial with inscription recording his frequenting "....of these shades...."; tradition that was here Dryden composed Hind & Panther;
