Full Description
{1} "Crockwell, Northants, 36 SW. East of Welton. There is an earthwork near the farm house marked Crockwell Farm in the old 1-inch. Does not appear to be a defensive work."
{2} The earthwork mentioned above is situated at SP 59506565 and is an incomplete, abandoned section of the Grand Union Canal.
{3} RCHM records that earthworks channel, SP 595656 is at a considerably lower level than, and thus unlikely to be associated with, with the Grand Union Canal. A map of 1834 shows the channel as a watercourse diverting a small tributary stream. The earthwork has been destroyed by ploughing.
{5} Theory that the earthworks related to the medieval watermill associated with Welton and mentioned at Domesday. It may have been shared with Thrupp, which was located immediately to the south
