Full Description

{1} Owners from 1883 Butlin, Bevan & Co. and from 1889 Thomas Butlin & Co.Ltd., until closure in 1892. Butlins were mainly working in the Wellingborough area with the exception of this site east of Kettering towards Cranford. Butlins staked their claim on this site immediately after the opening of the Kettering to Cambridge Midland railway line. The site being adjacent to the railway line it is thought that horses were used on the site to pull the wagon s containing the ore. The quarry face was of such a shallow depth that quarrying did not last long and the quarry was closed in 1892.

{2} Western part of former quarry pit noted;
