Full Description

{1}The Bridge Street/ Market Hill elevation is of 3 bays,, stone built with the entrance set between two ground floor bay windows. A datestone survives and is inscribed "T. D. 1734".Very little operation of the coaching inn remains and a great deal of alteration had taken place. Some of the buildings have been demolished but the condition of those surviving is mostly fair. Inside the pub there is some survival of bench seating in the bay widows.

{2} An inn named the"Chequer" is in existence in the town in 1830. The building is shown on three 19th century OS maps "Chequers Inn" and Hotel. The frontage of the inn survives intact but the inn is no longer in use today.

{5} Chequers, Market Place. An inn named the 'Chequer is in existence in the town in 1830. The building is shown on 19th century Ordnance Survey maps as 'Chequers Inn' and 'Hotel' and is located on Bridge Street opposite the Market Place. The building is still in existence today and has a date stone which is inscribed 'T.D. 1734". The building is no longer in use as an inn and has just been sold. The frontage to the inn appears to have survived intact and the building may have high potential for surviving features relating to its use for this purpose.
