Bridge and causeway over the River Ise

Map

Type and Period (4)

Full Description

{1}Bridge over River Ise; single stone arch & 4 flood arches; mentioned in Assize Rolls of 1253;

{2} A raised pedestrian walkway or causeway at least 74 metres long, is associated with and extends south from the south side of Newbottle Bridge, which spans the infant Rive Ise adjoining the north eastern boundary of Harrington parish, Northamptonshire.

P.5 The Newbottle Bridge flood arch component of the causeway indicate that it is a 1876 rebuilding of an earlier feature of 1648 (or 9) though given the medieval origins of the bridge, the causeway origins might speculativiely go back even earlier.
