Full Description
{1} Trench 1: below modern overburden and a demolition layer, C19th ironstone and brick walls were exposed at 1.1m below the modern ground surface and were set into a mixture of builders' debris and garden soils. The garden soils were on top of stiff natural clay. Into the natural was set a pit and an ironstone block of unknown function. Thh pit contained no dating evidence.
Trench 2: this also had walls that were set into garden soils that were highly contaminated by C19th builders rubble. At a further depth, beneath the builders' rubble lay a spread of ironstone and two pits. One of the pits was stone-lined and rubble-filled and the other is cut into natural clay. These features contained pottery dating to the 16th century.
