Monument record 1160/395/6 - Medieval property boundary

A wall foundation perpendicular to St Mary's Street and likely to be the remains of a boundary wall of a property fronting onto the street

{1}To the west of the possible hardstanding was a shallow, rubble filled ditch cut into the natural ironstone.

{2} Subsequent excavation found this feature to be an isolated wall foundation built of ironstone. It contained sherds of Brill/Boarstall and Potterspury ware vessels, dating to the late 13th to 14th century. It also contained a fragment of blue-grey oolitic ridge tile, possibly made at Lyveden, Northamptonshire in the 12th to 13th century. The wall ran perpendicular to St May's Street and is likely to be the remains of the boundary wall of a property fronting the street.
