Building record 8630/1/9 - Airfield Control Tower, Silverstone Airfield

Second World War airfield control tower at Silverstone airfield, now Silverstone racing circuit.

{1} A "Type 12779/41 Control Tower" (Watch Office). The balcony and steps to the roof have been removed but the building is in good condition. The windows have been boarded up and still have glass in them. One window in the front of the building has been replaced with a door." Brick and concrete. Development of the racing circuit could threaten in the future. Plan and colour photographs.

{2} The control tower has been sympathetically renovated using the original window frames etc, to provide additional offices. Although the balcony is missing, it must now look quite similar to when it was built.
