Monument record 8666/0/1 - WWII Searchlight Battery

The site of a searchlight battery from World War II. It was probably constructed between 1939 and 1945 but its condition is uncertain at the time of the Defence of Britain survey. The site is located in Rothwell.

{1} WWII Searchlight Battery (very approx SP81608030) - exact location undetermined but lay in vicinity of above grid reference"beyond the cemetery".

{2} Documentary reference to searchlight battery. Appendix of War Diary details location of every S/L in their area (N of Grantham to E coast) due to a change in the system of numbering in 1942. Prefixes of old numbers make it possible to cross reference them to location statements. Rothwell S/L, at MGR 73/274999 (converted by AA to NGR SP 81988024) had old number WT.097B (ie 362 Bty, 41 S/L Regt.); the new number was 305C.
