Summary

The site of a World War II brick and concrete home guard store in the garden of Bulwick Rectory. Two square in plan brick structures with timber doors and concrete roof and floors. The site is said to have been used for ammunition storage. The site was constructed in the period 1940 to 1941and was seen, in a bad condition, during a Defence of Britain field visit in 1998.

Full Description

{1}Located in the garden of Bulwick Rectory are two square plan small brick structures with timber doors and concrete roof and floors. According to Rev'd Wilson these were used as Home Guard ammunition stores. Bad condition. No associateed Home Guard Buildings identified. Location plan and two colour photos.

{2} A level II building recording survey of the buildings was undertaken prior to planned demolition. The form of these two structures is almost identical to a pair of twin home guard stores/shelters located behind the Drill Hall at Oundle, these structures are documented as being for storing inflammables and explosives. B Company-Bulwick of the 3rd (Oundle & Thrapston District) Battalion of the home guard were stationed in Bulwick during the war period.
