Summary

A watching brief during soil stripping at Cowthick Quarry identified several possible features. Four sherds of unstratified Romano-British pottery were also found.

Full Description

{1} Removal of topsoil, subsoil and excavation of drainage channels watched between March and October 1998. A small pit containing burnt stones and clay was observed. A section of a pit or ditch was seen in the side of a drainage channel. There was evidence of burning. There was no dating evidence in either feature, but four sherds of Romano-British pottery were found elsewhere.
