Full Description
{1} Building VII: Stable range
3 plus 2 bay range forming north side of yard. Modern aluminium sheet roof on softwood cross trusses with iron tie rods. Rubble stone building with ashlar (ironstone) chamfered door jambs.
West end: A stable with stone paved floor and evidence of mangers against the north wall. Large sockets in both walls mark position of three joists across building for hayloft floor, and small joist holes in east and west walls show position of common joists. One window each side of door (west one rebuilt and another new one above), and hayloft door above main door: also connecting door to higher (75 cm) floor of room to east.
East part: single room divided by stone gable from remainder: new concrete floor (two sawn- off joists for 1st floor or roof) and concrete block face added to lower portion of north wall. Similar door and window (and window over door). Probably just a loose box (it is similarly plastered and whitewashed to probable ceiling height) and more hayloft over - there was a way through at first as at ground floor in the partition gable. Possibly all a rebuild of another building. 16th or 17th century with 19/20th century roof and modern covering. First shown on the earliest map of the site dated 1696.
