Full Description

{1}Along the north east edge of Area 3 a deep pit had been largely cut away by a later known Iron Age pit. However, the fill of this earlier pit consisted of a dark grey ashy material which produced flintwork of Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date. Intial assessment of the samples of the pit showed that it contained nut shells. Such material is associated with earlier prehistoric period and is probably representitive of human subsistence activity. The pit also sontained a molluscan assemblage which was shadeloving. This contrasts with the other molluscan assemblages from WIlby Way which were open country species.
