Full Description
{1} (Referred to as Roman settlement.) Large quantities of Roman pottery and of building materials have been recovered at various times during ironstone quarrying. At least some of the pottery came from ditches or pits exposed in the quarry faces.
{2} Sherds of Roman pottery were found by F.V.Lyall in a section of pit opened in the face of an ironstone quarry at SP94307745. Photographs and the pottery are now held in Westfield Museum, Kettering {3}.
Further examination of the quarry face (recorded by OS on 27/11/1969) showed two 'pits' either side of a hedge-end with adjacent disused footpath, which suggests a ditched road. No Roman road is known in the area and no other pottery was seen {4}.
