Summary

An area of enclosures, linear ditches and possible ring ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They may represent Iron Age and/or Roman settlement activity. Cropmarks confused by geological features.

Full Description

{1} Cropmarks recorded in 1980. Rectangular enclosures, ditches and possible pits. Very confused by complex geological features. (G Foard, 01/08/1980)

{2} SP 983693 Enclosure, pits recorded on AP in 1982.

{4} Rectangular enclosure and ditches recorded on AP in 1980.

{5} The features referred to above (Sources 2 and 4) were visible on aerial photographs and were mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. The area centred at SP 98307 69283 comprises linear ditches, some of which appear to form large enclosures, and a possible ring ditch. To the southwest at SP 98267 69230 are an adjacent small ring ditch and roughly square enclosure. They may represent Iron Age and/or Roman settlement activity.
