Full Description

{2} Documentary references to a post medieval/modern park. Fieldname: The Park.

{3} Most of the present landscape can be attributed to post medieval farming activities. Much land was enclosed during this period, with the woodlands and wastes being encroached upon by cultivation; the original size of Bozeat Wood is indicated by pre-enclosure maps and by field names referring to ‘stockings’ or ‘stocken’ meaning an area of tree-stumps. The south-east part of Bozeat parish, including the area around Bozeat Grange had been imparked by the C17th, the field name ‘The Park’ is recorded on a fieldnames map of 1932, to the north of Bozeat Grange. Both the parkland and the area to the east known as ‘The Wolds’ were under cultivation at an earlier date.

{4} By the 17th century at least the south east part of Bozeat parish round Bozeat grange was emparked, though both it and the area to the east known as the Wolds were under cultivation at an earlier date.
