Full Description

{1} Iron Age settlement found during industrial development in 1971. A number of pits and ditches were noted, all containing late Iron Age pottery. A flint tanged arrowhead was also found. Other similar finds have also come from the same area, but are not exactly located.

{2} SP 899698. An Iron Age/Romano British site was discovered in February 1971 within the borders of Links Rd and Paterson Rd on the Finedon Rd Ind Est during levelling for building construction, (the Lampson-Paragon factory now occupies the site). A number of ditches and a pit 4 feet in diameter were found. The pit, the only feature fully excavated produced only a few undatable sherds. Pottery from other features indicates occupation from the late Iron Age through strong Belgic influences to early Romanization, with abandonment early in the Roman era. Some pieces of firebar found with pottery are probably of domestic origin.

{4} Features. A ditch and pit along with Iron Age pot sherds, a tanged arrowhead, firebar and animal bones. Found in 1971 by R.Harper. 11 featureswere noted but no site plan produced. The site was possibly abandoned in the early Roman period. It was located on the knoll between Links Road and Paterson Road, now the site of the W.Lampson Paragon Factory.
