Full Description
{1} Recorded as parkland in 1731.
{8} Elkington was held by Pipewell Abbey until Dissolution, but all the arable land in the parish had been converted to pasture before then. In 1412 the parish was described as destitute, presumably following The Black Death. At Dissolution eight large pastures and a grange were bought by various lay landowners, the grange presumably on the site of the present Elkington Farm. By 1547 four thousand sheep were grazing in the parish.
