Summary

Roman settlement, unlocated but possibly around SP735530. Believed to have been discovered in the C19th during ironstone quarrying south-east of Blisworth village. Roman coins, pottery and 'ornaments', some from wells or pits, are recorded from the parish. Worked flints are also documented.

Full Description

{1} Features revealed in 1886. Possible Romano-British stone-lined pits. "Little pits" are commonly met with in the ironstone workings at Blisworth. A few feet in diameter and stone-lined, with a smoother face on the outside. Also there is a rubble-filled space between the lining and the pit side. The fill includes animal bone and possible Romano-British pot sherds. Collected by T.J.George. Also other Romano-British coins and 'ornaments' have been found in the near neighbourhood." Report dated 16th July 1886.
