Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Cropmarks of possible linear settlement identified on aerial photographs. Fieldwalking survey undertaken as part of the Raunds Area Project found only four sherds of Iron Age pottery, but subsequent archaeological observation during the construction of the A605 recorded a number of middle and late Iron Age features, although the record was fragmentary.

Full Description
Description from record 5799/0/3:
{1} Undated ditch identified
{2} Minor excavation in 1988 as part of the Raunds Area Project. An Iron Age site was identified where eight sherds of pottery had previously been recovered. Several pits and ditches were found either side of the road cutting. Also the curving gully of a possible roundhouse was revealed.
{3} Pit and ditch of middle Iron Age date and ditches, gullies and pits of late Iron Age were also noted during road construction. The nature of the site is uncertain, but part of one gully appeared to form part of round house or its eavesdrip gully. The site is located in area where only four pieces of Iron Age pottery had been recovered during fieldwalking. The absence of surface material is perhaps due to the poor preservation of pottery in the soil or due to being buried beneath a medieval headland.
{4} Iron Age settlement, watching brief by S. Parry.
