Full Description

{1} Owners Earls Barton Iron Ore Co. Ltd., the company was formed in 1913 after promising trial holes were sunk 1911. An aerial ropeway was constructed to convey the ore from the quarry to the LNWR Northampton to Peterborough line south of the River Nene. The quarry was to the north side of the Doddington Road and a 3ft guage tramway was constructed to the aerial ropeway terminal south of this road. The first quarry was opened on 1st July 1915. Closure of the quarries on the 24th March 1921 was stated as being due to the quality of the stone and the trouble with the overlaying sand but the postwar drop in demand may have had an effect to.
